Meet Laura
Hi! My name is Laura. I am a biracial empathetic, compassionate, and caring therapist who will meet you where you are at in your journey of healing. I understand that the stressors we experience can significantly impact us. These stressors can cause anxiety, reoccurring thoughts, and leave you struggling to move past things. This can cause a ripple effect throughout our lives; affecting school, work, and relationships. I know that coping and managing this can be difficult.
In therapy, we can aim to develop strategies to make things easier for you. I take a genuine and warm, client-centred approach when working with my clients.
I can appreciate that therapy is not the same for everyone, therefore, I will tailor my work to fit your needs. My work is rooted in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, mindfulness-based strategies, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and trauma-informed care. My goal is to offer you a safe and non-judgemental space, where we can collaboratively work to improve your well-being.
In my educational career, I have completed a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology with a concentration in Forensic Psychology from Carleton University. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO - #13239). I am a member with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
I have lived both internationally and in Canada, providing me with invaluable life experiences of empowering marginalized communities. I value authenticity, curiosity, growth, and openness. Making the decision to start therapy is a courageous one. I will be here to listen and support you on your unique path. I invite you to reach out, so we can discover your path of healing together.
Outside our sessions, I enjoy a wide range of activities. On the weekends, you may find me painting (not very well), cooking and baking, going on nature walks, playing the piano, and spending time with friends and family. My favourite time of the year is fall. There is nothing more beautiful than walking through the forest and admiring all the colourful leaves. Much like the fall leaves, we can learn to embrace change and all its beauty, in therapy.
